I spend a lot of time out on the trail as well as partaking in mini-adventures. I have select gear for all of my outdoor experiences and ideal footwear is certainly towards the top of my list. I was contacted by Xero Shoes and they offered to send me a pair of their new Mesa Trail II shoes which are about to be released in the coming weeks in exchange for an honest review. Since I’m a fan of Xero Shoes and own quite a few pairs, I accepted their offer.

The Mesa Trail II shoes arrived and I was happy with them as soon as I opened the box. They were light, looked great and had lugs on the bottom of the sole. Since the Terra Flex models have been my go to on the trail and when rucking -they also have lugs on the sole bottom- I knew these Mesa Trail II shoes were right for me and my needs. The thing I noticed about the Mesa Trail II when compared to the Terra Flex II model is that they were much lighter. These make the Mesa Trail II shoes ideal for trail running.

I was recently in California and visited a place where seals congregate. To get closer look I had to traverse over slippery, moss-covered rocks just to get a closer look at the seals at play. I had my Mesa Trail II shoes on and I was able to navigate the rocks without a care. I was able to focus on what I wanted to which was watching the seals do their thing.

I also wore the Mesa Traill II shoes while walking around sight seeing. I had a pair of jeans on and I felt very comfortable and my wife said that I looked good. That is certainly a plus! We walked for miles and my feet felt great. The shoes didn’t even require a break in period.

SPECS ON THE MESA TRAIL II SHOES:

  • Natural FIT — a wide toe box lets your toes spread, splay, relax, and function naturally.
  • Natural MOTION — the Mesa Trail is flexible enough to let your feet bend, move, and flex the way, well, that feet are supposed to. The “XERO-drop” design (non-elevated heel) allows for proper posture, and it’s built low to the ground for balance and agility.
  • Natural FEEL — the Mesa Trail II has a 5.5mm FeelTrue® rubber sole, including the 3.5mm lugs to give you the right combination of protection and grip, plus ground-feedback so your brain knows how to move your body optimally. Also, you can remove the 3.5mm insole, for a closer-to-barefoot experience that lets you Feel The World®.
  • Light weight — so light, in fact, you could forget you have them on.

BOTTOM LINE:

If you are in the market for a great trail shoe, that is lightweight and ensures that you are sure-footed on most terrain, take a look at these Mesa Trail II shoes.
