Here Is My Video Review On The Schrade Tactical Pen:
I am very fortunate to be able to travel the world teaching the NTC Method.
With good pros come some unwanted cons and in this case the CON is the fact that I am completely disarmed while visiting these other countries -and even while in certain U.S. city’s & States. Most of these countries have a zero tolerance policy against carrying any type of blade or item that can be construed as an improvised weapon. It always leaves an uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach but it was part of the job..
I carried a “regular” pen with me at times, where it was possible, as a self-defense tool. It could be easily deployed, comfortable because of my training and wouldn’t be looked at twice regardless of the foreign land that I was in. But a standard pen is neither built well enough nor provides the comfort that a pen built for a specific purpose can offer; in this case a tactical pen. I have been around various styles of tactical pens but never felt the need to carry one until all my standard options were taken away..
The true irony is that I am usually traveling internationally in order to teach self-defense to law enforcement and military personnel from these countries.
I did some research and came across this specific Schrade model that seemed to address my needs. I was aware that all Schrade tactical pens were built well. But I needed my specific tool to offer the comfort that I needed as well as not looking like a tactical pen. The last thing that I want to do is to cause a reason to alarm the TSA, customs official, police officer, etc. both Stateside and abroad. The trips are lengthy enough without the added hold up of a brief or sometimes lengthy interrogation.
SPECS ON THE SCHRADE TACTICAL PEN:
- 5.7″ overall length
- CNC machined 6061 aircraft aluminum
- Screw-on/off cap
- Hauser Parker ball point pen cartridge included

The Schrade model number SCPENBK definitely gets a thumbs up; did I mention that it also writes great! I did find a con that makes it a bit less than perfect. Take a look at the full video review below for more detail.
